OZ Smart Home

Smart Lighting Sydney

Smart switches, relays, dimmers, scenes and schedules designed around how each room is used.

OZ Smart Home designs and installs smart lighting systems across Sydney as part of a wider smart-home platform. We plan switch locations, control logic, dimming, scenes and future expansion so the home still feels simple from the wall, the app and the wider automation system.

What smart lighting can include

  • Smart switches for everyday wall control with app and automation support where the chosen system allows it.
  • Smart relays for selected retrofit or hidden-control situations where they are suitable for the wiring and load.
  • Dimmers for rooms where mood, glare and night-time comfort matter.
  • Scenes such as Morning, Evening, Movie, Dinner, Goodnight and Away.
  • Schedules tied to time, sunrise, sunset or household routines.
  • Occupancy-based automation for hallways, bathrooms, laundries, garages and low-traffic rooms where sensors are appropriate.
  • App, panel and voice control where supported by the selected devices and platform.

Retrofit and new-build approaches

For existing homes, we assess switch wiring, neutral availability, load type, wall-box space and network coverage before recommending switches, relays or dimmers. For new builds and renovations, we can plan lighting control earlier with the builder or electrician so cabling, switching and scenes are easier to maintain later.

Scenes, schedules and automation

Lighting can be grouped into daily scenes such as arrival, evening, movie night or goodnight. Schedules and occupancy-aware automation can reduce unnecessary runtime where sensors, wiring and the selected platform support it.

Control options

Depending on the products and platform chosen, control can be available through wall switches, apps, wall panels and voice assistants. We avoid designing a home that only works from a phone; the wall controls still need to make sense for visitors and everyday use.

Integration with the wider home

Lighting can work alongside blinds, curtains, shutters, covers, climate, access and security as part of one automation strategy. For example, a movie scene can dim lights and close selected window covers where compatible equipment has been installed. If you are planning motorised window coverings, see Smart Blinds, Curtains, Shutters & Covers.

Smart lighting questions

Can smart lighting be retrofitted into an existing Sydney home?

Often, yes. The right approach depends on the wiring behind each switch, neutral availability, wall-box depth, load type and network coverage. We check those details before recommending smart switches, relays or dimmers. For a broader technical overview, read our smart lighting benefits guide.

Do smart switches need a neutral wire?

Some smart switches require a neutral wire and some products are designed for no-neutral situations. We do not assume either way until the switch position has been checked. If electrical work is needed, it must be handled by an appropriately licensed electrician.

Can smart lighting still work from the wall if the internet is down?

Good smart lighting should still make sense from the wall. Depending on the selected platform, local scenes and automation may continue without internet, while cloud-only features may pause. We design around everyday wall control first, then add app, voice and automation where they improve the home.
